Logline

As diverse and intricate as the notes of a piano, the

experiences of metro-Atlanta’s Black and Latino families resonate with

both harmony and discord in their pursuit of musical excellence;

connecting their journeys is the story of Azira G. Hill, one of the key

visionaries behind the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra’s Talent

Development Program (TDP).

Synopsis

The film will explore the families behind certain prodigies; specifically, the Black and Latinx families whose sacrifices, resilience, and hope power the dreams of young exceptional musicians. Rather than framing this story through policy or institutional narratives, the film centers the personal and intergenerational investments that have made the Talent Development Program (TDP) possible and impactful for more than three decades.

Themes

What it means to raise a classical musician of color, especially within a tradition that often sees them as outliers or exceptions. The costs of excellence, from financial strain to emotional and physical tolls, particularly when success must also carry the

burden of representation. The power of legacy, particularly when individuals like Azira Hill plant seeds in systems not designed for them and witness those seeds grow. The fragility of inclusion, and how hard-won spaces for Black and Latinx musicians are being reshaped under political and cultural pressure.

Resilience as resistance, seen not in headlines, but in the quiet, steady work of parents driving across town, of teachers mentoring outside of hours, of students practicing long after everyone else has gone home.
